What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a powerful tool that combines technology and data to manage, analyze, and present geographically referenced information. It enables us to comprehend and share data through maps, reports, and charts, revealing relationships, patterns, and trends. In essence, GIS translates complex data into easily understood, visually compelling insights that aid in problem-solving and decision-making.

GIS integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. It allows us to view, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, reports, and charts.

GIS answers questions and solves problems by looking at data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared. The tools provided by our GIS division aid in decision-making and problem-solving across a broad range of sectors, from urban planning and environmental conservation to public health and emergency management.

Our goal is to collaboratively engage with City departments to ensure the delivery of precise, reliable, readily accessible, cost-effective, and comprehensive GIS data, infrastructure, and services. This commitment serves as the foundation our dedicated support to meet the distinct requirements of the City of Winder and enhance the lives of the citizens we serve.
