The City of Winder is undertaking the Center Street Stormwater Outfall Project to address persistent flooding at the North Center Street underpass and improve drainage for properties along the corridor. This infrastructure project will involve significant construction efforts to install a new stormwater system, reducing flood risks and enhancing stormwater management in the area.

Project Timeline

  • Start Date: May 2025
  • Estimated Completion: December 2026 (subject to change)
  • Work Hours:
    • Monday–Friday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Saturday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • No work on Sundays

What to Expect

  • Temporary disruptions, including noise and lane closures.
  • Coordination between the City, contractor, and property owners to minimize inconveniences.
  • Restoration of disturbed areas in accordance with easement agreements.

Upcoming Road Closure

Oct. 19–approximately Nov. 30 — Center Street: Center Street from May Street to E. Athens Street will be closed to through traffic for approximately six weeks for work on Center Street and within the railroad right-of-way, weather permitting.

Only emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the construction area when needed. All other through traffic will need to use an alternate route.

Access to area businesses will be maintained:

  • OZK Bank will be accessible on Center Street from E Athens
  • Maxwell’s will be accessible on Center Street from E Athens
  • The pawn shop and ice cream shop at May and Center streets will be accessible from May Street.
