Gas Department Mission Statement

The City of Winder Gas Department provides natural gas service to customers in Barrow, Oconee and Walton counties. While a large portion of gas customers enjoy the warmth and reliability of gas heat in the winter, many customers have discovered the benefits of gas water heaters, pool heaters, cook stoves, grills and the clean burning beauty of fire logs.

Winder's Gas Department is constantly endeavoring to install new mains and services in the tri-county area. There are currently 10 employees that provide years of experience to insure that the gas system is operated in the safest and most productive manner. The City currently has over 5000 gas customers, and this number is growing daily. The City of Winder has 5 major industrial customers that use large volumes of gas year-round in their manufacturing processes. Walton EMC uses natural gas to product power at a generating plant during the hot summer months when power is in its greatest demand.

The City of Winder Gas Department plans to continue to expand and grow in the future with several subdivision projects and industrial parks already in the planning stages. We provide 24 hour emergency response in case of an emergency or if a customer thinks they smell gas or may have a leak. Our after hours calls are monitored and dispatched through the Winder Police Department at (770) 867-2156.
