The State of Georgia is under a Level 1 Drought Response, including Barrow County and the surrounding northeast Georgia region.

The declaration comes as dry conditions continue across much of the state. Under Level 1 response measures, outdoor watering is limited to the hours of 4 p.m. to 10 a.m. for all water users, including residential, commercial, institutional, recreational, and industrial customers.

The City of Winder is asking residents and businesses to be mindful of water use and take practical conservation steps. Reducing unnecessary outdoor watering, repairing leaks, and using water-efficient practices can help preserve water supplies and reduce demand during dry conditions.

“Water conservation is a shared responsibility,” said Horace Gee, Winder’s director of utilities. “Simple steps taken now can have a meaningful impact on protecting this essential resource for the community.”

Exemptions include watering personal food gardens, newly installed landscaping during the first 30 days, drip irrigation, and hand watering with an automatic shutoff nozzle.

Residents with questions may contact City of Winder Public Utilities at (770) 867-7978
