Grounds Maintenance Technician

The City of Winder is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is essential to maintaining the parks, public spaces, and facilities our residents enjoy every day.

As a Grounds Maintenance Technician, you’ll help care for City parks, grounds, facilities, and rights‑of‑way. Every day brings something different, from mowing and landscaping to repairing playground equipment and supporting emergency operations when needed. If you enjoy variety, teamwork, and meaningful work, this position offers all of that and more.

Essential Duties

 You’ll play a key role in keeping our community spaces safe, clean, and welcoming by:

  • Operating light and heavy equipment such as commercial mowers, tractors, weed eaters, and blowers
  • Installing and maintaining irrigation systems
  • Applying herbicides and pesticides as needed
  • Repairing fences, sidewalks, and playground equipment
  • Installing landscapes, pruning trees and shrubs, and laying sod
  • Removing litter and debris from parks and City buildings
  • Pouring concrete and performing general grounds upkeep
  • Responding to on‑call or emergency situations outside normal hours when required
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, and ready to learn. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, and light/heavy equipment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles and equipment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License with a good driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age of 21
  • U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work
  • Ability to pass a detailed background investigation
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands‑on role. You should be comfortable with:

  • Standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 65 lbs.
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Using your full range of vision, hearing, and sense of smell for safety
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment

Working Environment

You’ll spend most of your time outdoors in varying weather conditions. The work may involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, uneven surfaces, and moving equipment. This position is designated as an emergency role, meaning you may be called upon during severe weather or City emergencies.
