Job Summary:  

The Digital Media Specialist enhances the City of Winder’s public presence through strategic digital content. This position plays a key role in advancing the City's strategic communication initiatives, enhancing transparency, strengthening community trust, and supporting key leadership messaging. This role is responsible for assisting with the city’s social media, producing photo and video content, managing the city’s digital assets and YouTube channel, supporting the city’s podcast, and working with city departments to maintain website content. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller with strong technical and organizational skills who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

 Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Collaborate with departments to collect and develop content that promotes city services, programs, and events.
  • Ensure digital content aligns with city branding, accessibility standards, and strategic communication goals.
  • Capture and produce high-quality photography and video content for use across digital channels.
  • Edit photos and videos to meet brand standards, accessibility requirements, and channel-specific formats.
  • Attend city events to capture content, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
  • Manage and update website content, including page builds, asset uploads, and coordination with platform vendors as needed.
  • Operate the City’s drone for approved projects, adhering to FAA regulations.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and publishing content on the city’s official social media platforms.
  • Manage the city’s YouTube channel and assist with content creation and publishing for the city’s podcast.
  • Monitor social media platforms for engagement, trends, and community sentiment; assist with analytics reporting.
  • Organize and maintain the city’s digital asset library, including photos, video clips, and graphics.
  • Maintain video, audio, and photography equipment to ensure optimal performance and readiness.
  • Stay up to date on new and emerging technologies, systems, and vendors to improve workflow and operational efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong visual storytelling skills with demonstrated experience in photography and videography.
  • Proficient in Canva and professional media editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut, or equivalent), including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design principles, including layout, typography, and brand consistency preferred.
  • Familiarity with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, CivicPlus, or similar platforms).
  • Solid understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, etc.) and best practices.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI tools to streamline content creation and enhance digital workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple digital platforms and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with collaboration, project management, and internal service expectations.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Proactive, self-managing individual with strong interpersonal skills. 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification may be required within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in communications, telecommunications, broadcasting, media arts technology, instructional media technology, or a related field to the assignment.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital medial production.

  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

  • Experience working within a professional organization or office environment required.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background screening process consistent with City policies and applicable laws.

  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.

  • A citizen of the United States or has obtained legal work status.

  • Must pass a detailed background investigation.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and /or holidays as required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • This position works primarily in an indoor or office environment. On occasion, this position will be required to photograph/take videos with outdoor events.
  • Occasionally while performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work in an outdoor environment in all temperatures and weather conditions, to include snow, wet and/or humid conditions. While working an outdoor event the employee may be exposed to loud noise from sound systems or equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, hand, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and smell. The employee must be able to perform physical labor, including having sufficient strength to lift and carry production equipment and tools weighing up to 65 pounds.
