Train Day

How did the City of Winder get its name? Find out at Train Day on Saturday, June 22.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gainesville-Midland #208 steam engine and caboose museum adjacent to the Winder Depot, learn how Barrow's county seat got its moniker after being called Snodon Indian Village and Jug Tavern.

Retired railroad conductor Jim Baughman will display some of his railroad memorabilia and share his knowledge of trains and history including the transfer of the steam engine from the active tracks to its siderail location as a historic venue.

Activities including a painted rock hunt are planned. Refreshments will be available and retail train-related items will be for sale. No admission but donations are welcome.

The Barrow County Museum, operated by volunteers of the Barrow County Historical Society, will also be open.

This event is being conducted by the Barrow County Historical Society, please contact them for more information.
