City of Winder & Barrow County Burn Ban Extended: Barrow County Fire Chief Robert Post and City of Winder Fire Chief Raymond Mattison have a announced that the open burning ban scheduled to end September 30, 2007 will be extended indefinitely. "The lack of measurable rainfall during the summer has resulted in an increase in the threat of brush and woods fires," said Post. "Until these conditions improve Chief Mattison and I feel that it is in the best interest of the citizens of the City and County to extend the ban." The State imposed open burning ban normally runs from May 1st until September 30th each year.
