In 1912, the first Winder Police Department consisted of four officers, including the Chief of Police.
The Winder Police Department proudly serves the citizens of Winder by providing a wide array of services, including:
- Neighborhood and Business patrol
- Crime Preventions Programs
- School Resource Officer Program
- D.U.I. and accident-reduction patrols
- Housing Authority Patrol
In 2002, the Winder Police Department achieved State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification, complying with standards of professionalism and ethics in law enforcement. During 2009, our officers patrolled over 420,000 miles and responded to over 16,400 calls for police services. Officers completed over 5,000 written reports, investigated over 549 motor vehicle accidents, and conducted over 8,400 traffic stops and completed over 4200 hours of training. The Investigations Divisions conducted over 5000 investigations, including Drug Operations resulting in over 497 arrest warrants for 265 individual illegal drug charges, seized 16 vehicles and over $50,000 in assets and cash.
Our employees worked over 100,000 regular hours, and 8,500 hours overtime.
