The Winder Police Department offers a Citizen Police Academy twice a year to members of the Winder community. The Academy is a twelve week program designed to familiarize community members with how the department operates on a daily basis. Participants also learn how they can help prevent crime through a partnership with the Police Department.
Classes are taught by Officers of the Department who have extensive training and experience on the topic of discussion. Each class is designed to give participants the opportunity to ask questions and participate in hands on activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol officer during their shift. "Range Day" allows the participant to enhance their shooting skills at the firearms course that officers must qualify on. Some topics of instruction include: Crime Scene Processing, Defensive Tactics, Impaired Driving, K-9 unit, and SWAT, just to name a few.
Classes are held at the Winder Police Department one day a week for two hours. You must be eighteen years of age or older to participate.
