Water First
The WaterFirst Community Program was launched in 2002 in an effort to recognize and reward cities and counties across the state that volunteer to go above and beyond the requirements of the law when it comes to the management and stewardship of our shared water resources. This program provides technical assistance to a limited number of communities each year that are striving to gain the WaterFirst designation.
In October of 2006, the City of Winder and Barrow County partnered in the application for the WaterFirst Community Program. On January 10, 2007 we were selected as WaterFirst Class of 2007 participants from a very impressive field of applicants.
There are seven areas of excellence needed to be designated a WaterFirst Community:
The City of Winder and Barrow County are currently underway polishing the requirements needed to become a WaterFirst Community.
The City of Winder Utility Department is offering Indoor and/or Outdoor Home Water Conservation Kits to the Community at no charge. The kits may be received indefinitely from the Utility Department at 83 West May Street, Winder, GA 30680 (across the street from the Huddle House).
